I bought my HanWag Special Forces GTX from becketts adventure www.armynnavy.com for £159.99, the excuse was needed for the cost! I like to think of myself as quite a boot connoisseur as I seem to indulge in a new pair every 6 or so months and I think these have been my best purchase for a very long time.
The boot is brilliantly designed with firm and solid eyelets that provide a easy and effortless boot on/boot off. The laces are particularly strong for standard ones, I've found before that after 2-3 months other boots have needs new laces, this wasn't the case with these though, they're strong and durable and even tightened to the max they don't strain your leg as they're nice and thick with the help of the thick upper boot. These boots (mine anyway) are full black leather with a rubber vibram sole, and fully waterproofed (Gore-tex). The Gore-text element to these boots helps the be exceptionally warm, wading through snow in Canada was a breeze and I hardly felt the cold at all, and excessive hill walking is a dream even through light streams and ditches. The design provides awesome ankle support even after losing my footing and thinking I'd rolled my ankle the boot sprung into action and helped maintain full support.
I would recommend these to anyone thinking of hill walking or in any of the services they are incredibly well made and if maintained well will last a lifetime, although a high price in the retail side of things, many companies provide a discount to BFPO addresses and serving forces/emergencey service personnel. An all round hard hitter these boots certainly get my seal of approval.
The only reasons for downgrading are the weight of the boot, they are quite clumpy, and the price but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and with these boots that's excellence.
